Hagop Goudsouzian is an independent producer and director with 10 Armenian content documentaries and three shorts to his name.
He self-financed, produced and directed the one hour documentaries: Armenian Exile, Armenian Minstrels and Armenian Echoes (three one-hour) Apricot Armenian Gold (with English Subtitles and with English Voices) and Uprooted. He also directed and narrated the feature length documentaries Mon fils sera arménien and My Son Shall Be Armenian for the National Film Board of Canada.
Hagop Goudsouzian is a Canadian-Armenian filmmaker with a passion for exploring cultural roots and identity. After spending most of his professional life producing and directing mainstream television programs, he decided to dedicate himself to independent films, financing his own productions.
In partnership with TVOntario TFO, he has produced and directed a number of television series, including Dossiers XXX, a documentary series in which science and technology are presented from a teenager’s perspective. As well, he produced Spectacles en direct, a concert series. Goudsouzian also created, produced and directed the series Un autre son de cloche, to coincide with International Year of the Family. In each episode, skits written and played by children aged 9 to 12 addresses various social and family issues based on the children’s perceptions and experience. Goudsouzian’s interest in young viewers led to the creation of another series, Nouvelles Nouvelles that won the Children’s Broadcast Institute Award of Merit.
As well as being a producer and director, Hagop Goudsouzian is also a photographer; his work was exhibited at the Bibliothèque nationale du Québec before touring various North American galleries.
Hagop Goudsouzian has produced four documentaries on the Music of Armenia; Armenian Minstrels is his first, a tribute to “Sayat-Nova Minstrel Song Ensemble” and the work of Professor Tovmas Poghosyan. Followed by a mini-series, three one-hour documentaries Armenian Echoes.

Goudsouzian recently released his 10th Armenian content documentary Uprooted – The Ongoing Quest for Identity - part three of his Armenian Trilogy. Armenian Exile is part one: a video self-portrait in which he pursues his quest for identity, a theme that also inspired him to make My Son Shall Be Armenian and Mon fils sera arménien.
